On Easter, we would get dressed up in whatever Easter outfit we had for that year and go to mass with our grandparents. They were devout Catholics and attended mass every week. We didn't know the parts of the mass, nor did we care; we were simply waiting until the end of mass so that we could get the coveted candy-filled Easter baskets that my grandmother always made for us. She filled them up with every kind of chocolate and Easter candy imaginable, and she always made them herself; we never received store-bought Easter baskets. I should really call them Easter buckets, since they were pastel colored sand buckets that felt as if they weighed a ton when we got them. There were chocolate eggs, a chocolate bunny, chocolate malted candy, jelly beans, Peeps, Hershey's Kisses and a whole lot of love.
Reflecting on this today made me smile. I miss my grandma and grandpa.
Happy Easter to those that celebrate.
AW, Grandmas are the best.....I remember too, I didn't make daddy a basket this year, I just bought him some See's Candy Toffe ettes....He seems very pleased.
